The city of Melbourne proudly supports the Melbourne Homelessness festival Where the Heart is…Community Festival now in its seventh year.
The festival is a day of celebration and fun for homeless and marginally housed people.
This festival is free and is a great opportunity for people who are homeless or living in insecure housing to experience greater social connection as well as showcase their creative talents.
With music and poetry performances, art and craft workshops, health information and health services, free haircuts, massages and meals, it is a festival that provides a multitude of direct services on the day, celebrates the positive things in participants’ lives, and encourages the talents, skills and resilience of people experiencing homelessness.
The festival is held in Edinburgh Gardens, Fitzroy and in 2009 over 1000 homeless people attended and participated. The festival is an initiative of the Royal District Nursing Service (RDNS) Homeless Persons Program and supported by VicHealth and local, state and federal governments.
